    What is a veneer?

A veneer is an ultra thin cover created with porcelain or composite resin and placed on the exterior of your tooth. Veneers cover:

    • chipped, cracked, or misshapen teeth
    • gaps between teeth
    • permanently stained teeth

    Porcelain Veneers

Our porcelain veneers are custom-made in a laboratory and take longer to make than a composite resin veneer. This process ensures the veneers will be strong and won’t stain easily.

A small amount of enamel is removed from the front and sides of your mouth to allow proper placement of the veneers, ensuring a natural feel and appearance.

We will make adjustments if we find they are necessary then bond your custom-made veneers to your teeth. We can always make adjustments to your veneers in the future, if needed.

    Composite Resin Veneers

Similar to porcelain veneers, composite resin veneers are thin covers placed on the exterior of your teeth, however, the substances used, process, and longevity are unique.

We use composite resin substances to mold and bond veneers in-office, which means the entire process can be complete in just one appointment.

Usually more enamel needs to be taken from your teeth to place composite resin veneers. While they are typically not as strong as porcelain veneers, composite resin veneers can be be easily fixed if they have any issues. Composite resin veneers are cemented to your teeth using a special light then refined to match the rest of your smile.

How do I take care of my veneers?

You want to maintain thoughtful oral hygiene of your natural teeth and veneers to keep them both looking and feeling good well into the future.

    Diet

Try to stay clear of foods that may cause permanent staining. Also try not to chew on hard objects like pens, pencils, or ice as they can be very harmful to your teeth and veneers. If your veneers become damaged, stained, or shift, you run the risk of your veneers not looking as natural, making these blemishes more noticeable.

    Oral Hygiene

The American Dental Association recommends brushing your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes to maintain healthy, clean teeth. Additionally, you should floss at least once a day to rid any plaque or other bacterias that can otherwise cause tooth decay. Poor oral hygiene can reflect poorly onto your smile and make you self conscious. At Dental Group at Polaris we want to do just the opposite of that, which is why we highly encourage healthy and frequent dental care to make you proud and confident in your smile.

    Dental Visits

Dental visits are essential in maintaining proper function and placement of your veneers. Veneers can require modifications only our staff can fix.
