If you’ve been daydreaming about how perfect your smile could be one day, we can help make your dreams a reality. In the way that a fresh set of acrylic nails can make your fingernails look perfect by covering your natural nails, dental veneers can perfect your smile. They permanently cover your teeth for a more pleasing shape or color than your natural smile.
Who Should Get Veneers?
Anyone who wants to correct the overall shape or color of their smile could benefit from dental veneers. They can perfect your smile you if you have stains, chips, breaks, or small gaps between your teeth.
How are Dental Veneers Made?
Veneers are either made of porcelain or composite resin, which is made of filling materials. Porcelain is stronger, yet can’t be repaired if ever damaged, whereas composite resin can be. Porcelain is the closest match to your natural teeth, and resistant to stains, so more costly than composite resin.
How Are My Teeth Prepared?
During your initial visit, Dr. Kevin Young will assess your teeth you make sure they are able to receive veneers. Any oral issues like gingivitis or cavities must be addressed first. However, if everything is in order, we can start preparing your smile for your veneers by removing a thin layer, usually half a millimeter or less, from your teeth. Local Anesthetic will help with any discomfort you may feel. After your teeth have been filed, we will take a putty or digital impression of your teeth to be sent to a dental lab. We will match the color to your natural smile so that they look natural in your mouth.
How Many Appointments Will This Take?
You will need to come into your Polaris dentist for at least two visits to complete the process. The first visit is for your assessment and preparation. The second visit is when you will receive your custom dental veneers.
Once your veneers are cemented, we can make minor adjustments if needed. It’s best to wait at least a few days to get used to their feel before coming in for adjustments or polishing.
How Long Will I Have My Veneers For?
The lifespan of your dental veneers depends on you. Talk to your Polaris cosmetic dentist about what to avoid to prevent chips and cracks in your new smile.
The Benefits
Congratulations to any long-tern coffee-drinkers or cigarette-smokers with stained teeth! Dental veneers will greatly improve the coloring of your smile and cover any stains on your teeth. They are stain-resistant, so may stay white longer than your natural teeth would.
Years of exposure to coffee, soda, or other acidic drinks or food may also wear down your enamel, making you especially vulnerable to heat or cold or to pressure. Veneers can fix that too! They will add a strong protective layer over your damaged enamel.
The Risks
Getting Dental veneers is an invasive process. Removing the top layer of enamel from your teeth is irreversible. We can only replace the enamel we take off your teeth with the veneers.
As we are filing down a layer of your enamel, the soft dentine comes closer to the surface of your teeth. This may make you vulnerable to pressure and extreme temperatures as well.
