The Dental Examination
The American Dental Association recommends children and adults visit the dentist at least twice a year for an oral exam. At the exam, we will examine every tooth, surrounding tissues and gums, tongue, and cheeks. This allows us to check for cavities, inspect plaque levels to confirm the presence of gum disease, and assess any other issues that may need further treatment. Oral cancer screenings and examination of your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) will also be provided.
Our family dentist Lewis Center team can take comprehensive oral X-ray images at your initial checkup to assure the support and structure of your teeth are healthy and functioning properly. These images aid us in diagnosing cavities, identifying bone loss, and checking for abnormal lesions. Radiographs are not required at each visit, however, we strongly recommend them yearly and before specific oral treatments.
